Astromech Raises $20M to Predict Cellular Longevity
Archer Aviation Inc. and Boeing announced the definitive agreement. According to the deal, Archer will acquire three Boeing-owned companies, including Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu, to become much bigger in AI, autonomous aircraft, drones and defense technology.

Astromech, an emerging artificial intelligence firm that operates from Dallas, Texas, has successfully managed to raise $20 million in its latest funding round. The firm specializes in computational biology and predictive AI technology and was formed after spinning off from Colossal Biosciences, a renowned company whose specialty includes de-extinction technologies.
Bob Nelsen, founder of ARCH Venture Partners, led this latest round of funding alongside NeoGenesis Capital, Builders VC, and other genomics-focused venture firms. After this latest funding round, Astromech is valued at a whopping $3.8 billion, having raised $60 million since its founding.
The startup plans to use this money to expand its specialized research teams in machine learning and biology. They will also use the funds to buy new genomic data from multiple species and build the powerful computer systems needed to scale up their AI models. Astromech builds advanced AI systems that act like forecasting engines for living things. By analyzing huge amounts of historical DNA data, the AI can predict biological changes before they happen.

Currently, the company is running tests using its platform for cell longevity, that is, working out how cells become long-lived. The platform has mapped 46 genes related to aging and cancer resistance in various animals, including bowhead whales, bats and elephants. The firm intends to use its artificial intelligence to prevent zoonoses and cancer mutations and to help save ecosystems.
