Coca-Cola to Introduce Cane Sugar Coke in the United States

Coca-Cola will introduce a new cane sugar–sweetened Coke in the US, validating a plan revealed by President Donald Trump last week. Although Coca-Cola sweetens its Coke with regular sugar worldwide, it has depended on lower-cost corn syrup in the US for decades.

Trump’s Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.expressed worries over corn syrup’s health effects, but experts find no definitive nutritional advantage between the sweeteners.

“This is a smart move, you’ll notice. It’s simply better!” Trump posted on social media last week.

In its Tuesday report, the company announced plans to release a US cane sugar product this fall. “We intend to utilize all sweetening options to meet consumer preferences,” said CEO James Quincey, adding that cane sugar is already in US lemonade, coffee, and vitamin water.

Last week on Truth Social, Trump surprised many by announcing Coca‑Cola’s shift to real cane sugar. Trump posted that he persuaded Coca-Cola to switch to real cane sugar in US Coke. “Mexican Coke,” sweetened with traditional sugar and sold in glass bottles, has built a dedicated US fanbase since its 2005 debut, despite its premium price.
