Hyundai to Position Humaoid Robots For US Factories

Hyundai plans to use humanoid robots at its manufacturing plant in Georgia starting in 2028. This will help automate risky and repetitive tasks. The company unveiled the production model of the Atlas humanoid robot, developed by its Boston Dynamics unit, at theConsumer Electronics Showin Las Vegas on Monday.

Hyundai has not shared the number or price of the robots. However, they aim to use “Physical AI” to drive greater adoption across their manufacturing plants. The robots will begin performing parts-sequencing tasks in 2028. Their use will expand gradually as they demonstrate improved safety and quality.

Hyundai plans to deploy Atlas robots for long-term component assembly, including handling heavy loads, performing repetitive motions, and executing complex operations across manufacturing sites. These robots are designed to reduce physical work for labourers performing higher-risk, repetitive tasks, laying the groundwork for broader commercial use in industrial settings.

Hyundai’s Vice Chair Jaehoon Chang said at CES that the company needs to focus on its workforce, as workers are still needed to maintain and train robots. The company aims for humanoid robots to become the largest segment of the physical artificial intelligence market.
