Nissan plans to reduce the number of its global vehicle models to 45 from 56; this decision is part of a long-term plan led by CEO Ivan Espinosa to revive the automaker after a prolonged period of challenges. The number of models is expected to be reduced, creating a more competitive landscape while maintaining the company’s presence in core markets and consolidating its operations.
In the framework of this strategy, Nissanaims to gradually incorporate artificial intelligence-based driving features in 90% of its vehicles. Very soon, they want AI to control driving in 90% of their vehicle models. The company targets hitting very high numbers for 2030, such as selling one million cars each year in the US and China, and 550,000 in Japan. Regarding products, Nissan will launch a hybrid version of the Rogue SUV and an electric version of the Juke. Besides, they want to add new variants to their powertrain offering.

The restructuring is part of a much larger plan to turn around the company, which includes reducing worldwide manufacturing and workforce, increasing efficiency, and focusing on the most popular models. Nissan is also looking to adjust its market presence, with manufacturing in the United States and China serving as bases for exporting to other global markets. The step indicates the company’s attempt to respond to changing market factors, where efficiency, technology integration, and product strategies focused on specific customer segments are essential.
