NVIDIA is expanding its efforts to develop photonics technology to improve the infrastructure required to support the next wave of artificial intelligence advancements. Indeed, photonics technology is one way NVIDIA is attempting to increase data transmission speeds, improve efficiency, and boost performance in the field of artificial intelligence. Photonic technology uses light rather than electrons to transmit data, resulting in higher speeds and lower energy consumption. As the field of artificial intelligence develops and AI technology becomes more sophisticated, electronic data transmissions are increasingly inadequate for data processing.
Recently, NVIDIAmade significant investments in optical networking and photonics firms such as Lumentum and Coherent in order to acquire advanced optical networking technology. Reports claimed that the company intended to make huge investments of billions of dollars to conduct research, manufacturing, and development of optical communications for AI data centres. It has also been driving collaboration in the areas of optical fibre and network infrastructure due to growing demand for AI computing around the globe. The CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, has repeatedly emphasised the need for advanced AI systems that are faster and more energy-efficient.

Analysts note that investments in optical networking could benefit NVIDIA as it seeks to sustain its dominance in the fast-growing AI sector.
