OpenAI to Collaborate with Amazon Web Services

Aiming to provide the ChatGPT maker with access to AWS’s advanced cloud infrastructure to support its growing artificial intelligence workloads, OpenAI on Monday announced that it has signed into a multi-year strategic partnership worth $38 billion with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

To free the ChatGPT maker from its non-profit framework, this deal is a major announcement since AI’s restructuring last week. Also, according to Reuters, it is a broader strategy by OpenAI and its largest investor, Microsoft, to minimise mutual reliance.

OpenAI will gain immediate and increasing access toAWS resources, including Amazon EC2 UltraServers with Nvidia chips and the ability to scale to millions of CPUs, according to a blog post.

Additionally, this seven-year partnership aims to help OpenAI to rapidly exceed its compute capacity while benefiting from AWS’s price, performance, scale, and security.

To cluster through EC2 UltraServers and enable high-efficiency AI processing across interconnected systems, OpenAI will utilise AWS infrastructure, including state-of-the-art Nvidia GB200 and GB300 GPUs. This deployment is to support both ChatGPT inference and the training of next-generation models, according to the company.

Sam Altman, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of OpenAI, stated that “Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable computers. “Our partnership with AWS strengthens the broad computer ecosystem that will power this next era and bring advanced AI to everyone.”

Additionally, OpenAI made its foundation model available on Amazon's Bedrock. Following this restructuring, the company announced an agreement to purchase an additional $250 billion worth of Microsoft Azure.
