Nvidia to Finance $105B OpenAI AI Data Center in Ohio

Nvidia is planning to offer approximately $105 billion in financing to support a huge AI data center for OpenAI in Ohio, USA. OpenAI needs enormous computer power to operate AI models like ChatGPT. To do so, the company requires thousands of powerful AI chips and huge data centers. Nvidia manufactures powerful chips used to train and run AI systems. Instead of only selling chips to OpenAI, Nvidia also finances the infrastructure needed to use those chips. SB Energy also plays a pivotal role in this deal.  The company will build and operate the data centers at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Ohio. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in a release, “We are securing long-lived infrastructure for NVIDIA compute so OpenAI can deploy the most productive AI factories that can be upgraded repeatedly with each new generation delivering more intelligence and better economics.”  NVIDIA is effectively helping OpenAI get access to the infrastructure it needs to expand AI operations. There was previously discussion that OpenAI would lease a massive data center campus in Ohioas it seeks to expand the computing infrastructure. For this Ohio project, SB Energy and SoftBank plan to develop power sources capable of supporting 10 GW of energy. They also plan to invest at least $4.2 billion in regional electricity-grid infrastructure. Nvidia itself plans to invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy.
