PlayStation Blackout Protest Against Sony’s Game Disc Plan
Archer Aviation Inc. and Boeing announced the definitive agreement. According to the deal, Archer will acquire three Boeing-owned companies, including Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu, to become much bigger in AI, autonomous aircraft, drones and defense technology.
A group named DoesItPlay, which supports video game preservation, is urging PlayStation gamers to join a one-week boycott of PlayStation from August 23 to August 30 against Sony.
During the one-week boycott, the protesters want players not to use their PlayStation consoles or log in to their PlayStation Network(PSN). Protesters also urged players not to buy games or other products from Sony. Sonyis planning a major halt in producing physical PlayStation game discs by 2028. This move has created tension among gamers regarding the future, as they may have to buy most games digitally through online stores instead of buying a physical disc from a shop.
Gamers supporting physical games are worried because a digital purchase does not always provide the same level of ownership and control as a physical copy.
Some gamers think that a one-week boycott will not have a major effect on Sony. They believe that Sony can simply wait for the boycott to end and then continue with its plan.
Gamers think buying a physical game disc means you have something you can keep, resell, or collect. With digital games, your access can depend more heavily on the platform and its online services.
This is also a wider problem in the gaming industry. Steam and other companies have moved strongly toward digital distribution.
