Qualcomm CEO: AI Agents Will Replace Apps on 40 Devices

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed that the company is developing over 40 new AI-powered wearable devices designed for all-day use. These gadgets, including smart glasses, smartwatches, camera-equipped earbuds, jewelry, and pins, aim to change how we interact with technology by allowing users to speak directly to AI assistants.

Christiano believes AI agents will become very important. These intelligent digital assistants are able to do jobs for the user in various capacities. For example, instead of having to open the application, go through menus, and then find out about the details of a particular transaction, the person could simply ask his or her intelligent assistant and immediately receive an answer. He stated that mobile applications will continue to exist, but they will evolve.

Christiano is highly optimistic about smart glasses, noting that millions are already sold annually. He predicts sales will surge to hundreds of millions within a few years, rivaling smartphone popularity. Major companies like Meta and Samsung are already developing models equipped with cameras and AI features. He also said that AI companies are entering the hardware market to run their AI agents directly on everyday devices and to collect richer real-world interaction data, which will be used to improve future AI systems.

To support smaller, smarter future AI hardware, Qualcomm is developing more powerful and energy-efficient chips. CEO Cristiano Amon believes current devices are unready for an AI-driven future, prompting the company to build for the next generation of technology.
