Samsung Electronics has projected a substantial increase in its fourth-quarter operating profit, estimating a 208 per cent rise compared with the same period a year earlier, significantly beating analysts’ expectations and underscoring the company’s strengthening position in the global semiconductor market. Samsung said the operating profit for October–December 2025 is likely to reach about 20 trillion won (approximately $13.8 billion), driven by booming demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence applications and tight supply conditions that have pushed chip prices sharply higher.
The forecasted profit marks a new quarterly record for Samsung, easily surpassing the previous high set in the third quarter of 2018. The company’s strong performance is largely attributable to its semiconductor division, which benefited from surging prices for conventional memory chips as global chipmakers struggled to keep pace with demand from servers, personal computers, and mobile devices supporting AI workloads. Analysts note that the sustained shortage of memory chips has significantly lifted contract prices, contributing to Samsung’s profitability.
Samsung also anticipates that revenue for the same period grew by about 23 per cent year-on-year to around 93 trillion won, with its semiconductor business expected to account for the lion’s share of earnings. While the mobile and consumer electronics units face margin pressure due to rising component costs, the company’s leadership sees the broader industry trend of strong AI-led demand and limited production capacity supporting continued growth in semiconductor profits.
