US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is among the potential candidates for the next Federal Reserve Chairman, President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday, though he indicated he is not the leading choice.

Following the escalation of Trump's conflict with Powell over the decision not to cut interest rates despite lower inflation, Bessent has become a prominent candidate to succeed the Fed chair.

In a Bloomberg Television interview, the US Treasury Secretary stated that Powell should resign from the Federal Reserve's board once his term as chair concludes in May 2026.
