Trump Family’s Crypto Venture Targets $1.5 Billion Deal

The Trump-backed World Liberty Financial is reportedly presenting a new project to investors. They aim to create a public company holding WLFI tokens, seeking around $1.5 billion, according to Bloomberg. Major investors in the tech and crypto sectors have been approached, with discussions progressing rapidly.

World Liberty, which designates Donald Trump as “co-founder emeritus,” revealed last year its plans for a crypto-lending app and introduced a dollar-backed stablecoin named USD1. The company has collected funds through WLFI token sales, which were originally intended to be non-transferable governance tokens but are now planned to be traded.

Digital-asset treasury firms, which raise funds to buy cryptocurrencies, aim to raise approximately $79 billion in Bitcoin this year. This surge is partly driven by Trump’s pro-crypto policies, including a bill last month regulating dollar-pegged stablecoins. Trump’s family is broadening their involvement in cryptocurrency through mining initiatives and intentions to launch digital-asset ETFs.

In related news, stablecoins are evolving as blockchain-based payment assets, capable of settling trades and remittances without user awareness of the technology. However, challenges like cybersecurity risks, liquidity crises during market stress, and fragmentation across multiple blockchains hinder broader adoption. Standardization through protocols, industry standards, or regulations may be needed.

Despite obstacles, the sector shows momentum. Industry headlines suggest stablecoins are integrating with traditional finance, aiming to transform how money moves and the store of value itself.
