TSMC's Arizona ramp hinges on specialty chemicals, not just concrete and visas

PHOENIX — TSMC's Arizona campus has become a national-industrial talking point. The operational story is smaller and more chemical. Photoresists, ultra-pure gases, and wet-process chemicals still travel long routes, and U.S. qualification clocks are measured in quarters, not press releases.

Plant managers at two specialty-chemical firms said they are adding U.S. capacity specifically for the Arizona line, but customer audits remain the long pole. A drum that is acceptable in Tainan is not automatically acceptable in Phoenix. The paperwork is the product.

That is why the next earnings tell may not be wafer starts. It will be whether a handful of mid-cap chemical suppliers report their first meaningful U.S. volume. If those shipments slip, the most expensive buildings in the desert will wait on liquids.
