Hilton Opens Hale Hokuala Kauai as Curio Resort

Hilton announced the opening of Hale Hōkūala Kauaʻi, Curio Collection by Hilton, a 210-room lifestyle resort marking the brand's debut in Hawaiʻi, according to a report by PR Newswire M&A on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, in McLean, Virginia, and Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi. Situated within the Hōkūala Resort community overlooking Nāwiliwili Bay and Kalapakī Beach, the property features 23 suites, open-air spaces, private lānais, and views of the Pacific Ocean, Hāʻupu Mountain, and the Ocean Course at Hōkūala. Danny Hughes, president of the Americas for Hilton, noted that the opening expands the company's regional footprint while building on more than six decades of hospitality in the islands. The launch aligns with broader hospitality strategies similar to those seen when KFC debuts Open House restaurant in Texas to test new customer experiences, prioritizing experiential formats for consumers, as well as retail developments such as when Habanos, S.A. debuts travel humidor for duty-free and travel retail.

Design and Cultural Integration

The property was designed by Hart Howerton and AHL, formerly known as Architects Hawaii Limited, with interiors created by Looney & Associates. Positioned among mature monkeypod and banyan trees, the resort features open-air walkways and expansive lānais. Guest rooms utilize floor-to-ceiling windows and color palettes drawn from Nāwiliwili Bay and local valley greens. Brooke Thomas, brand leader for Curio Collection by Hilton, stated that the property pairs contemporary island design with bespoke programming celebrating local traditions. The resort anchors its guest engagement in E Ala Ka Pilina, a signature cultural immersion program developed alongside local practitioners, educators, historians, artisans, nonprofits, and community organizations, beginning with the Kauaʻi Museum as an inaugural partner.

Portuguese-Hawaiian Culinary Concepts

Dining operations are led by executive chef Hans Lentz and director of food and beverage Romina Migliorini, with concepts developed by StiR Creative Collective, Hilton's in-house consultancy. Figueira serves as the signature restaurant overlooking the 18th hole of the Ocean Course at Hōkūala, offering Kauaʻi's only Portuguese-Hawaiian dining concept. The menu includes Pineapple French Toast with Kuleana Rum caramel, Kauaʻi prawns, Portuguese Fisherman's Stew, bacalhau no forno, pastel de nata, and malasadas. A casual counterpart, The Wiliwili at Hale Hōkūala, serves poke bowls, plate lunch specials, shave ice, shareable pūpū, and tropical cocktails alongside a vibrant mural.

Amenities and Event Infrastructure

On-property amenities include a pool, fitness center, full-service spa, wellness programming, and access to tennis and pickleball courts within the Hōkūala resort community. Outdoor offerings feature preferred tee times at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Ocean Course at Hōkūala, over 5 miles of scenic trails, complimentary bicycles, beach amenities, and The Farm at Hōkūala, which showcases canoe plants and native crops. For business and social gatherings, the resort provides more than 14,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space with ocean and mountain views.

Loyalty Integration and Global Scale

The resort participates in Hilton Honors, the guest loyalty program supporting Hilton's global network. To celebrate the opening, the property introduced the Kauaʻi Island Escape package, which offers 25 percent off the best available rate for stays of 3 nights or longer. This addition expands Hilton's portfolio of nearly 30 hotels across the islands, alongside properties such as Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikīkī Beach Resort, Ka Laʻi Waikīkī Beach, LXR Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Waikoloa Village, and Grand Wailea Maui, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. Globally, Hilton encompasses more than 9,400 properties and nearly 1.4 million rooms across 144 countries and territories, serving more than 260 million Hilton Honors members and employing 500,000 team members.
