GTA 6 Preorder Bonus: Free GTA+ Month Can Wait to 2027

Rockstar's GTA+ subscription month, not PlayStation Plus, can be claimed until March 2027 on PlayStation. Boxed copies and upgrades don't qualify.

The free month of GTA+, Rockstar's own GTA Online subscription and not Sony's PlayStation Plus, that comes with a digital Grand Theft Auto VI preorder on PlayStation does not have to start on launch day. Sony's offer terms let buyers claim it "at a time of their choosing by 31 March, 2027," more than four months after the game arrives. That matters because the month turns into a $7.99 monthly subscription once it ends, and GTA+ perks are built for GTA Online rather than for GTA VI, which Rockstar describes as single-player.

Rockstar Games, the label owned by Take-Two Interactive, announced preorders in June. The game launches on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at $79.99, with an Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Preorders and purchases before Nov. 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, "alongside a free month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders."

When the GTA+ Clock Starts on PlayStation

On June 30, GameSpot reported that it was "not immediately clear" when the free month would begin. PlayStation's offer terms page now answers that for its store:

  • Buyers must preorder or purchase the game by Nov. 19, 2026. They then get an email with redemption instructions.
  • The month "can be claimed by new, lapsed and existing subscribers at a time of their choosing by 31 March, 2027."
  • Existing subscribers can stack the month onto a current subscription, which the page notes "is usually not supported by GTA+ on PlayStation Store."
  • "After one month, your membership will continue monthly at the regular monthly price until canceled."
  • The on-screen claim steps "will make it clear on what date your one Month of GTA+ will continue into a paid monthly subscription."

In practice, a buyer can wait until Wednesday, March 31, 2027, to claim. Claiming at launch is not required to keep the offer.

Who Misses Out on the GTA 6 Preorder Bonus Month

The terms narrow who qualifies:

  • Physical buyers: Rockstar ties the GTA+ month to digital preorders, and PlayStation lists eligible buyers as those who purchase "the digital version." The Rockstar Store page says physical copies "will only contain a download code," with "A disc will not be included in the box." So a boxed copy holds a download code but, under the terms, no GTA+ month.
  • Upgraders: "Ultimate Edition upgrade is not eligible for this offer." Buying the upgrade on its own does not earn a GTA+ month.
  • Extra accounts: The month is "non-transferable," must be claimed on the account that bought the game and is "Limited to one redemption per account, regardless of additional purchases."

The terms also exclude some PlayStation country stores, including Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and the Russian Federation.

What GTA+ Costs After the Free Month

The GTA+ listing on PlayStation Store shows a price of $7.99 and says "Subscription continues until canceled." By our math, a year of renewals after the free month would cost $87.89 for 11 months, more than the $79.99 Standard Edition. Ten paid months come to $79.90, about the price of the game.

The listing also spells out what buyers are paying for. The benefits are "GTA Online Benefits," including "a revenue stream of GTA$500,000 deposited monthly to your Maze Bank account," Vinewood Club amenities and "Member-only Shark Cards with 15% bonus GTA$," plus a library of older Rockstar titles. It adds that "Access to Grand Theft Auto Online for PS5™ is required to receive the GTA Online benefits." The PlayStation terms page answers the multiplayer question directly: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience."

Cancellation stops future charges but does not refund past ones. The listing says buyers "will not receive a refund for payments already made."

What the $99.99 Ultimate Edition Adds

The bonus month is the same for both editions. PlayStation lists eligible buyers as those who purchase "the digital version of either the Standard or Ultimate Edition." Rockstar's release says the Ultimate Edition "amplifies this experience with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story." The $20 gap between the editions buys that in-game content; it does not buy a longer GTA+ trial. The Rockstar Store page also offers an upgrade to the Ultimate Edition on PlayStation Store "at any time" after purchase, which the PlayStation terms exclude from the GTA+ offer.

What GTA 6 Buyers Can Do Before Nov. 19

For PlayStation buyers who want the bonus without the bill, the terms point to a simple sequence: buy digitally by Nov. 19, and claim the month when they actually plan to play GTA Online, any time before March 31, 2027. Once they claim it, they can cancel before the renewal date shown on screen. Cancellations can be made through PlayStation's subscription management, which Rockstar's GTA+ support page lists as the route for PS5 members.
