Kraft Heinz Expands Philadelphia Cream Cheese Flavors

Philadelphia Adds Flavors and R&D Spending

Kraft Heinz is rolling out three new Philadelphia cream cheese products on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, launching a product strategy that includes limited-time cranberry orange and salted caramel varieties alongside a partnership with Mike's Hot Honey. The releases form part of a broader corporate plan to reinvest in legacy names, reported CNBC in a Tuesday dispatch. Previously, the 154-year-old brand introduced about one or two new varieties each year, such as garden vegetable or pineapple. Over the next two years, the label plans to release 10 new varieties to inject momentum into the category.

Investment and Market Share Realities

Jerome Drolet, Kraft Heinz president of taste elevation, oversees the portfolio shift, which follows a paused corporate split. In the period since Kraft Heinz announced the split was paused, the company's shares have fallen 2%. Some investors remain skeptical that stalled legacy brands can regain consumer favor, even with a $700 million investment package from Kraft Heinz. To reverse that trajectory, spending on the Philadelphia brand is expected to climb 63% this year compared with 2025, according to Drolet, with investment in new flavors quadrupling to fund expanded research and development.

"We want to make sure that the profile of the products we're launching are hitting critical masses," Drolet said. "It needs to be incremental, but it also cannot be too niche so that it only sells a few units."

Category Dominance and Retail Rollout

Philadelphia accounts for about 62% of U.S. cream cheese sales, according to data from Euromonitor International. Because of that market share, the brand acts as the primary engine for overall category growth. The new product push includes the Mike's Hot Honey whipped cream cheese, which will launch in Walmart exclusively before reaching other retailers' shelves in January. Earlier this year, Philadelphia also introduced a lactose-free version as part of efforts detailed in Kraft Heinz expands Philadelphia cream cheese flavors in brand turnaround effort to capture dietary shifts, while cat owners are spending more and boosting pet retailers across separate retail segments.

Marketing and Usage Occasion Shifts

The brand is channeling a portion of its expanded marketing budget back toward its pure dairy equity, recalling the ethos of its 1990s angel campaigns. In February, the company launched its "Really Philly good" campaign. Concurrently, the business is working to expand consumer usage beyond traditional bagel spreads by partnering with TikTok influencers and recipe websites. Drolet noted opportunities to substitute cream cheese in dips and pasta sauces, such as using the Mike's Hot Honey variety in a Bolognese.

Turnaround Metrics Across Portfolios

Philadelphia ranks among the company's billion-dollar brands, alongside Kraft Mac & Cheese, Kraft Singles, Heinz, Lunchables, and Oscar Mayer. Following the 2015 megamerger that created Kraft Heinz, the company recorded sliding U.S. sales, leading to a 2019 write-down of Philadelphia alongside five other brands. New CEO Steve Cahillane announced in February that Kraft Heinz would pause its planned breakup to fix the core business, backing the turnaround with a $700 million investment. Cahillane reported at the Barclays Global Consumer Conference that about 35% of the company's portfolio is holding or gaining market share, up from 21% at the end of 2025. Additional turnaround efforts across the enterprise include improved packaging for Oscar Mayer, Kool-Aid electrolyte packets, and protein-packed Kraft Mac & Cheese PowerMac.
